Dare to be Different!

Hello Creative Ones!

Today I've decided to use one of my stamped images to dare to be different!

What do I mean by that? I have chosen to turn my cute little girl into a girl from a different planet where they have green skin instead of light or dark skin. I wonder, if we had visitors from another planet and they looked just like us, and spoke just like us perhaps with a different accent, yet had green skin... would we, in this day and age, shun them like the native dark-skinned beauties of the past were shunned? I would hope not. I would hope that in this evolving time we would welcome them with open eyes and they could easily and happily integrate in to our society.

So to get back on track I've done a bit of a step by step of sorts. I used a stamped image I got from when I did my copic certification course - unfortunately I do not know the name of the designer I'm sorry. If you know please feel free to credit them in the copics or share a link to their stamps :) I'm sure I've seen some of them on whimsystamps.com

So to start with I used greens for the skin. We often think of green when we think of aliens right?

You never know how something is going to look until you try right? What do you think, does green skin work? The beauty of stamps is if you don't like how it turns out, just restamp it and start again! And as Sascha kept saying during the workshop, 'It's only paper!' - very expensive paper if you want the copic blendable stuff, but still... it's just paper.

Next I added the hair. I am absolutely loving Y28 lately for lots of things. Really lovely dark yellow/golden colour!

Next came the dress using some of my most favourite colours out of the entire copic range.

As you can see I like to break the 'rules' when it comes to copic. I've never done any formal art training so while I know the basics of colour theory and I know the basics of blending with copics and how to do it, I still prefer to go by sight and feel rather than by the rules.

Next I decided on orange for the teddy and bits on the girl. I often like to put the same colours around the one piece.

As you can see I have a few ciao copics as well as the sketch. I much prefer the sketch for all the usual reasons: holds more refill, easier lid to get on and off, general shape so it doesn't go rolling away, numbers on the end of the lids. But beggars can't be choosers. If anyone wants to donate to my cause of owning more copic sketch markers just let me know and I will give you my paypal details :D Alternatively if anyone from Copic wants to sponsor me I'd be happy to take supplies and create tutorials and such! In fact I would LOVE that!

Next came the branch, I didn't want it to be the same green and I wanted my girl to stand out more, so I chose a duller, greyish green.

Almost done now, I added the flowers. Again I wanted them a similar colour to her dress and shoes however I didn't want them as vibrant as her so chose a duller, more grey set of colours from the same family.

Then lastly I added some white pen for highlights and there is also some atyou spica on the shoes, flowers and along the headband but photos just don't show the glittery loveliness.

If you've enjoyed this blog post and you would like to see some more from me please give me a like or a comment. Spread my blog around. I'd love to hear from you and I'd love to do some more copic projects. Next time I might make a nice card.

Copic and Whimsy digistamp fun!

Just having some fun with my whimsy digistamps and copic markers. There is just something about copics. I'm not able to illustrate anywhere near as good with any other medium. Copic markers make it easy :)

Face Painting Fun With My Gorgeous Girl!

I have recently started experimenting with making videos and posting them on YouTube. Today's effort was with my effervescent little girl. She is such a treasure, full of personality and fun. She is my Jewel. I had so much fun painting her face today. See, I am by trade a face painter. I'd love to get in to design or illustration or such but for now face and body painting is it. So I have created a tutorial on a cute little teddy bear design. Go here to check it out:

Teddy Bear Face Painting

For now, it's getting late and I'm thinking I might get some arting done before bed!
